Video Sending Feature

With this new update, short videos can now be added to nudges, activation messages, or lessons as media content, replacing static visuals like images or GIFs. Learners will see a preview of the video’s thumbnail and title displayed above the message for enhanced engagement.

How Does It Work?

1. Uploading videos as media for a step

  • Creators can upload videos directly into the activation message or lesson steps, or with a nudge:

    • Uploaded videos are hosted on an Arist application link.

    • While we support long videos, we recommend keeping them under 5 minutes for optimal learner engagement.

    • Video quality is preserved—there’s no degradation, as the video is hosted and watched on a link in our app.

    • The course builder allows for editing the video's title and thumbnail, which will be displayed to the learner.

    • Note: users will need to be patient uploading videos, it will take some time

2. Linking to public video URLs

  • You can also link to videos from public platforms:

    • Supported platforms include YouTube, Vimeo, and Loom, which ensure proper previews in most channels.

    • Other video platforms are not guaranteed to work seamlessly, and we can’t promise reliable previewing.

    • Slack users: Keep descriptions concise as they display with the video in this platform.

Learner Experience by Channel

  • SMS: The video link and preview will display before the message (e.g. a nudge or lesson content), and is only likely to preview if the sender is saved as a contact.

    • We advise against using videos in activation messages for SMS courses. This is because many learners won’t have the sender saved as a contact, meaning the video might not preview.

  • WhatsApp: The video preview will display before the message content, with a clickable link below. The link will not be shortened

    • WhatsApp experience screenshots:

  • Email: Similar to WhatsApp, the video preview appears before the message, with a clickable link beneath it

  • Microsoft Teams: The video preview appears above the message body, with a clickable button for learners to view the video.

    • MS Teams experience screenshots:

  • Slack: Uploaded videos will preview above the message body, with a clickable button below the preview. However, note that if the learner has already received that video link in the past hour, it won’t preview again.

Important FAQs

Are videos uploaded in Arist public via link sent in the messages to learners?

  • Yes, videos uploaded to the platform are accessible to anyone with the link, even if they are outside the organization. This is to allow for watching a video without log in. For example, if a learner shares a video from a lesson, anyone with the link can view it, as it is not protected by a sign-in.

What external video links will properly preview and embed?

  • We strongly recommend using YouTube, Vimeo, or Loom for embedding videos. While other public links can be used, these are natively supported and guaranteed to preview well across channels.

Can I embed videos directly in lesson messages using public URLs?

  • While embedding video previews directly within message bodies is not fully supported, you can try this method depending on the delivery channel:

    • SMS: If the video link is placed on its own line (with no text before or after), it may preview.

    • WhatsApp, Email, and Slack: These platforms have varying degrees of support for public URLs, but success is not guaranteed for videos from unsupported platforms.
